“Everyone deserves a chance to fly!!!!”…pam
In the musical, “Wicked,” the ‘bad’ witch wants to defy gravity and stop living life ruled by limitations put on her by others. She sings, “Something has changed within me; something is not the same; I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game.” Now, you may say she didn’t have to live by their rules, but sometimes it is a very insidious process throughout our lives and we are often not even aware of limitations placed on us by ourselves or others. I have learned that people, for the most part, are somewhat uncomfortable when someone close to them makes big changes in their appearance or lives. For me, it has been my weight loss that has started the ’debate’ among well meaning friends as to whether or not I have; a) lost too much weight, b) become too obsessed with health and exercise, c) skin that looks withered and gaunt, d) listened to Dr. Tim too much about how much weight I REALLY need to lose! At first, I found myself trying to defend what I was doing, sounding defensive as I tried to explain that it was all about health and wellness for me. That wasn’t working, so I asked Dr. Tim how to respond and he was very helpful, emphasizing the spiritual health and wellness aspects of his practice, with the emphasis on wellness, nutrition, function, and a lower body fat, not just weight. Still, the comments continued…
Now, in all honesty, I could see for myself in the mirror that as a result of losing weight, I had too much loose skin and it bothered me a lot, so I started using Dr. Tim’s lemon cleanse to supplement my diet. After about a month, I started noticing subtle changes in my skin integrity, all the while working out with him 2-3 times a week. Slowly but surely, things started tightening up and I am feeling better about all of it. I also stopped responding to all my friends’ comments and concerns, simply stating I feel great and am healthier than ever. This strategy has worked better and now there is more acceptance and support from them. Many have even asked for Dr. Tim’s number…perhaps some of the comments were based on their own personal frustrations with health and wellness? Maybe I was able to give something back from what I learned? I hope so…
So, the ‘wicked witch’ defied gravity, flew away, and so shall I. “Everyone deserves a chance to fly!!!” Glinda, the ‘good’ witch in “Wicked” sings, “I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn; and we are led to those who help us most to grow, if we let them, and we help them in return.” Dr. Tim came into my life for a reason, to increase my awareness of limitations keeping me from ‘defying gravity’ and living a healthy, happy life. As he would say, “It’s all good!”
